Nursing Home Justice

My name is Jonna Spilbor. I’m a long-time lawyer, legal analyst, and fearless fighter for the rights of folks who face what may sometimes seem like insurmountable legal challenges in life.

My colleague, civil rights attorney Michael Kasanoff, and I have teamed up to assist the families of the estimated (and staggering) 15,000 COVID-19 deaths that raged throughout New York nursing homes in 2020 during the early phase of the Coronavirus pandemic.

Allow me to bring you up to speed with the latest legal developments.

Thus far, we have filed two federal lawsuits, both in the Eastern District of New York, alleging that the directives and actions of certain leadership were directly responsible for causing the otherwise avoidable deaths of thousands of loved ones residing in long-term care facilities during March and April 2020.

It is our hope these lawsuits will withstand the legal challenges being waged by the accused and, thereafter, will allow us to become the voice for the thousands of families whose relatives were forced to die -and die alone — due to these poor decisions.

For now, we are in the initial stages of what will be a monumentally important legal battle. It is our intention to ready the thousands of family members to join the fight for your own rights, as well as the rights of lost loved ones who never had the chance to fight for themselves.

We will keep the channels of communication open as the case winds its way through the Court. When (and if) we are given the legal greenlight to formally include other victims’ families, you can be first in line to know by opting into our email list. Any action you wish to take thereafter will be discussed and/or offered at that time.

For now, there is nothing you need to do except continue to check back (and/or check your email once you opt-in) for further developments. If ever you wish to reach out with questions or other concerns, you can also call me at (845) 485-2529. If you know of other families similarly affected, please feel free to spread the word. Our dedicated website and email is

My heartfelt thoughts are with you, and I look forward to communicating again soon.
